Social Worker Spotlight

Full Circle is helping celebrate National Social Work Month in March and the beginning of a new decade with the theme “Social Workers: Generations Strong.” Each week during the month of March, we will be highlighting some of our amazing social workers here at Full Circle Grief Center.

Today we are proud to introduce you to Melissa Weaver, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 20 years experience in the mental health profession working with adults and youth, families and groups.

The experience of grief can be overwhelming, isolating, and confusing. Melissa works diligently to meet the specific and unique needs of each client in an environment which provides for trust, compassion, and validation. Her goal is to ensure that each client feels heard, supported, and empowered.

Melissa currently facilitates psycho-educational groups, through Full Circle Grief Center, for individuals who have experienced a traumatic loss and is a Professor at VCU School of Social Work.

Why did you get into Social Work?

My mother was a social worker and her continued demonstration of empathy, compassionate care, and diligence to the profession was a continual source of inspiration.

What is unique about Full Circle?

Full Circle fully and thoughtfully embodies the idea of walking with someone on their grief journey.  Often times individuals want to fix grief which can unintentionally invalidate the overwhelming and unbearable feelings of the client.  Full Circle works to provide for validation through the awareness, acknowledgement, and compassion.

When not working, Melissa enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering for non-profit organizations, mindfulness-based practices, and finding purpose amidst loss and grief.

Thank you, Melissa for sharing with us! We are proud to have her as a part of our team at Full Circle and are excited to highlight her meaningful work as we celebrate National Social Worker Month.
